Healing Hands
September 25, 2024 (repost from September 25, 2023)
When we were younger, and we fell off our bikes and scraped our knee, what was the first thing we did (besides hoot and holler that we were dying)?
We covered the wounded area with our hand.
If you asked your eight-year-old self why you did that, would you be able to articulate an answer? Probably not. But, nonetheless it was instinct. We innately knew that it made us feel better.
How?
The answer simply is: energy centers.
In the middle of our palms are energy centers. They are our own unique healing instruments. We can use our own body’s energy to heal ourselves, and others.
Palm chakras
The chakras in our hands are essential as they are the giving and receiving instruments in our bodies, especially in terms of the energy of love, and are directly connected to our hearts. It’s very important that they be balanced, so they can function properly. Unbalanced palm chakras can cause emotional distress, low self-esteem and blood flow issues, in addition to numerous other negative side effects.
Combining elements and chakras
As each finger is linked to a specific element in mudras, each finger is also linked to one of the seven common chakras in the alignment of our bodies. (I have previously gone into more detail about mudras, see the post titled “Mudras in Meditation” here: https://www.introspectstudio.com/introspections-by-vanessa).
Here is each finger and chakra combination:
· thumb: Agni- fire element/solar plexus chakra
· index: Vayu- air element/Heart chakra
· middle: Akasha- space element/Throat chakra
· ring: Privthi- earth element/Root chakra
· pinky: Jala- water element/Sacral chakra
In Ayurveda
How these combinations function in the practice of Ayurveda:
· The fire element is for transformation, a.k.a food digestion, in the upper G.I. tract; the same location as the Solar Plexus
· The air element is for movement; our blood needs a certain level of oxygen to flow, and blood flow begins in the heart, i.e. the Heart chakra
· The space element is for nothingness or empty cavities; one of the most-empty cavities in our bodies is the throat, i.e. the Throat chakra
· The earth element is for soil or grounding; i.e. the Root chakra
· The water element is for fluidity; water is essential for removing the waste products from our bodies through the lower G.I tract; the same location as the Sacral chakra
Balancing Techniques
There are things that you can do for your palm chakras if you are experiencing any symptoms of unbalance:
· visualization meditation
· Reiki
· rubbing/warming your palms/hand massage
· healing crystals (depending on your symptoms; determine which chakra needs to be aligned and choose a correlating stone)
A few of these may require a partner for you to exchange energy with, depending on your adeptness, but they are all useful methods for relief.
I hope this post encouraged you to do some research on your own, we should all strive to keep growing!
Love and light to you all,
Namaste
